Alpine Wild Edge Woodworks

Hand-crafted art and furniture made from old growth North Coast Redwood

Introducing exquisite hand-crafted pieces for the home and business by San Diego Chef and Craftsman, Jim Phillips. All work is produced individually from old growth North Coast Redwood, procured in the mid-seventies. These magnificent trees are the tallest living thing on Earth and can live for over 2000 years. They range from Big Sur to about 10 miles inside the Oregon Boarder on the coastal strip. During the hot and dry Summer months they can acquire up to 1500 pounds of water a day from the coastal fog and because of the enormous height, is the secret to their survival as it is difficult to elevate water from the ground, up to 350 feet in the canopy. The tallest known tree today is measured at 379 feet and scientists have said they have the potential to grow to 450 feet

The wood you see in these pieces comes from the base of the trees which accounts for its density and unique grain patterns. Fortunately, the trees are highly protected today and clear cutting is no longer permitted. These days it is very difficult to find and becoming rare to see anyone producing and crafting this beautiful work.

I invite you to own a piece of the most awe-inspiring forest in the world!
